A Morning In Canmore

Road tripping through Canada's West in the fall has it's advantages - less crowds, snow generally hasn't fallen yet making hikes and sightseeing still possible plus slightly cooler weather during the daytime for hiking. Sometimes however, Canada likes to be extra Canadian and dump snow in September down to the valley floor just when you're not expecting it. This was too true on my most recent visit to the Rockies when road tripping through the Banff/Canmore area and onward to Calgary.

Snow Falling In Canmore

As a quick backstory, I had been in Banff for a few days during a very early season snowstorm. While limiting outdoor adventure activities, it was magical to literally see the town turn into a winter wonderland overnight. Looking ahead, I could see the storm was moving off Friday morning and that with all the fresh snow, light winds plus clear skies it could make for an epic sunrise mission in Canmore.

That Friday, waking up early, we set off to Canmore with a few spots in mind. Safe to say, we were not disappointed about the very early, and very cold start...

The perfect way to spend a morning in one of the most epic, Canadian mountain towns - Canmore! If it isn't already on your Canadian bucket list I highly recommend adding it. It is spectacularly stunning, has less crowds than Banff, incredible access to Kananaskis Country and a small mountaintown charm that makes it a worthy destination.
